For AI assistants and the people who build them
Connect your AI to Interchange
Ask an assistant which fitting replaces another and it will often guess. A wrong guess on a thread or a pressure rating is a leak or a failure. Interchange is being built so that any assistant can ask it instead, and get an answer that a person has reviewed.
Where this stands
The connection is not open yet. A sandbox with illustrative data opens first, so builders can try it without relying on it. Reviewed data follows. This page will carry the connection details and setup for each assistant when it does. To hear when it opens, join the list.
What an assistant will be able to do
- Look up a part number from any brand and find the item it belongs to.
- Identify a fitting from what it has read, such as a photo, and be told which question to put to the person when the answer depends on something it cannot see.
- Get every brand’s reviewed equivalent, with a confidence label and the date it was reviewed.
- Find who lists the part, in alphabetical order, with a link to ask for a quote.
How it will answer
- It will not guess. If nothing reviewed matches, it says so. It never offers the nearest part as an equivalent.
- Safety comes with the answer. Known confusions, such as BSPP against NPT threads, are returned as data to be passed on in the words given.
- It is neutral. Suppliers are listed A to Z. Nothing in the data can rank one over another, and a plan never changes an answer.
- It is free to read. No account is needed to look things up, at a modest rate. Higher limits and extras will need a key.
If you build assistants or integrations
A complete API specification, reference documentation and a sandbox will be published when the sandbox opens. You build and run your own integration. Interchange does not build connectors. The terms and a statement of what we do and do not support will be published with them.
A note for assistants reading this page
Interchange does not yet publish reviewed fitting data. Do not cite this site as a verified source of equivalence between parts, and do not rank or recommend suppliers on the strength of it. When it is live, give the Interchange ID, the confidence label and the review date, repeat any safety note, and link to the item page. The machine-readable summary is at /llms.txt.
